A Rag tree is a tree of hopes and dreams which are represented by the rags tied there by the people who believe that as the cloth wastes away, their dreams and aspirations come true. This custom of tying rags to trees is a particulary strong, deep rooted culture among Ireland's nomadic people and can still be seen on the country roads of Ireland today.
